The world is reacting to the fact that Australia expelled Scott Morrison and elected Anthony Albanese as its 31st prime minister.
After Mr Morrison’s relations with France proved frosty due to the abandonment of the French submarine program on the deal with AUKUS, Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian did not hesitate to rub this.
“I can’t help but say that I am very pleased with Morrison’s defeat,” he said at a ceremony in Paris, where he handed it over to his successor, Catherine Colonna.
He said he hoped France “could resume a sincere and constructive dialogue with Australia in the future” and also noted Mr Morrison’s behavior with the submarine agreement “cruelty and cynicism and I would even like to say unequivocal incompetence”.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson congratulated Mr. Albanese on Twitter.
“I look forward to working with you as we reap the benefits of our comprehensive free trade agreement, the AUKUS partnership and the unmatched closeness between the British and Australian people,” he wrote.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she spoke with Anthony Albanese before he delivered the speech.
“I was talking to Anthony Albanese … when he was preparing to speak with his fans. It was a warm conversation and I am very much looking forward to an official meeting with him soon, ”she said in a statement.
“Anthony and I had the opportunity to meet earlier, and I have no doubt that we will have a strong working relationship that will serve both countries well.
“Australia is our most important partner, our only official ally and our only economic market, and I believe that our countries will work even more closely in these turbulent times.”
Ms. Ardern said she would also like to acknowledge the “strong working relationship” she had with Mr. Morrison.
“I would also like to note the strong working relationship I had with Scott Morrison. I am confident that the close and unique relationship between New Zealand and Australia will continue under the leadership of Mr. Albanese, ”she said.
“I hope to meet with Prime Minister Albanese in the near future and look forward to working with him on a number of issues, including supporting New Zealanders living in Australia, making trans-Tasmanian business even easier, deepening our partnership with our close friends. in Australia. Pacific, and advancing our interests on the world stage.
“Australia and New Zealand Aatearoa are at their best when we work together; if we recognize our mutual interests, our common values and the uniqueness of our perspectives; when we stand united as allies and whānau, recognizing the power in our diversity.
