Albanese announces that the Japanese Self-Defense Forces will “train and exercise” with the ADF

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that “Japan Self-Defense Forces will train and conduct exercises” in Northern Australia alongside the Australian Defense Force following an updated Australia-Japan Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation.

Mr Albanese met his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in Perth to discuss the bilateral strategy in Perth.

“As part of our expanding security partnership, we welcome today that the Japanese Self-Defense Forces will train and exercise in Northern Australia alongside the Australian Defense Force,” Mr Albanese told a news conference in Perth on Saturday afternoon.
