Labor leader Anthony Albanese has been elected Australia’s next prime minister. “Tonight, the Australian people voted for change,” he said in a party room. “Earlier this evening, Scott Morrison called me to congratulate himself and the Labor Party on winning the election,” Albanese said before thanking Morrison and his family for their commitment to the country. “My Australians, this says a lot about our great country that the son of a single mother who was a pensioner with a disability who grew up in public housing on the road to Camperdown may stand before you today as Prime Minister of Australia”
