The man was arrested more than a month ago in a fatal crash on a remote Northern Territory highway.

Detectives detained a 50-year-old man on Monday in Alice Springs, about 1,500km from the scene where a 19-year-old man died on April 22.

He is expected to be charged with assault that led to his death after a teenager hit a car on Victoria Highway about 30km west of Timber Creek, near the border with Western Australia.

“We would like to thank the public for their help in identifying the vehicle, which led to the fact that the driver was also identified,” said Sergeant Jeshua Kelly.
