Preamble

Good morning and welcome to the first round season of the Women’s Super League 2022/23. So far this weekend, fans have seen two 4-0 results, with Arsenal beating Brighton and Manchester United thrashing Reading.

We now move on to Aston Villa v Manchester City, which should be interesting. It will be an opportunity for fans to see how City operate without a host of stars who left during the transfer window. The likes of Caroline Weir, Georgia Stanway, Keira Walsh and Lucy Bronze have left, with Ellen White and Jill Scott retiring.

City have done a shrewd job of bringing in players like Laia Aleixandri and Leila Wahabi. But it will be interesting to see how they line up and how they perform this afternoon.

For Villa, they will be able to test themselves against one of the Big Three, which will be a good challenge as they aim for a higher position in the table this season. Carla Ward’s side finished ninth last campaign and the signing of England star Rachel Daly this summer should help them climb a few places.

Team news will be released shortly, so stay tuned ahead of kick-off at 12.30pm
