Australia’s major supermarkets are struggling to buy napkin shelves to meet growing demand as COVID-19 and influenza are on the rise across the country.

A Coles spokesman said there was a problem in the industry in Australia when it came to fabrics.

“We want to reassure customers that stocks will be enough to survive this flu season,” a spokesman for news.com.au.

“Customers may notice that some stores do not currently have their usual brands of face wipes.

“We encourage buyers to be flexible when the products they normally buy are not available.”

A Woolworths spokesman said she was experiencing a similar supply problem when it came to colds and flu.

“Given the recent cold snap and the early start of the flu season, there is a fairly high demand for a number of medicines and paper products, including cold and flu pills, throat lozenges and wipes,” the spokesman said.

He said Woolies is working with vendors to fix the problem and have alternatives for most preferred brands.

At the moment, none of the supermarkets have restrictions on the purchase of products.

Shoppers have turned to social media to complain about empty care products shelves, including wipes, painkillers and other cold and flu products.
