The award given to the outstanding goalkeeper of the season 2021-2022 went to Courtois, ahead of Alisson, Ederson, Edouard Mendy and Mike Magnan.
Liverpool’s Alisson finished second to Courtois, who inspired Real Madrid to a Champions League final victory over the Reds in Paris last season.
It was the Belgian’s performance in that match that certainly earned him the highest award and helped him finish seventh in the Ballon d’Or voting.
Courtois made nine saves – the most since Opta began collecting data in 2003-04 – and prevented 2.5 goals, according to expected goals on target data, in a 1-0 win.
Madrid also won LaLiga, capping the best season of Courtois’ career.
Gianluigi Donnarummo won the Jashin Trophy in 2021, bringing the same glory to Italy at Euro 2020, but this time he did not make the top 10.
