Cricket legends and former teammates Andrew Simmonds will perform at a public memorial in Townsville this Friday – entitled “Honoring Roy”.
Among those who will perform will be trial goalkeepers Ian Healy and Adam Gilchrist, teammate Darren Lehmann, former Queensland Bulls captain Jimmy Meher and English White Ball coach and longtime friend Matthew Mott.
Renowned Brisbane poet and Simonds personal favorite Rupert McCall will also read the poem.
The service is open to the general public and will take place from 2.30pm to 4.00pm at Riverway Stadium. It will be preceded by a private funeral.
Simonds died on May 14 at the age of 46 in a car accident near Townsville.
Popular with his teammates, Symonds helped win two World Cups for Australia as an important middleweight batter and universal bowler.
He left the game in 2012 and became a member of the Fox Sports cricket comment team.
