World tribute after the death of former Australian cricketer Andrew Simmonds, who died when his car veered off a country road in Far North Queensland.
Residents nearby rushed to the aid of the 46-year-old resident after hearing the crash late Saturday night. It failed to revive.
“The cause of the accident has not been determined,” police inspector Gavin Oates said on Sunday, confirming that the driver was thrown out of the car when he rolled over.
Simonds is believed to have been driving on Hervey Rind Road, near the Ellis River Bridge about 50 miles northwest of Townsville when his car veered off the road. Police said that animals were driving in the back of the car, which were later taken care of by friends and relatives.
Andrews’ family asked for privacy.
Cricket Australia chairman Lachlan Henderson described Simonds as a “talent of the generation”.
“He was a cult figure for many who were respected by his fans and friends,” Henderson said in a statement on Sunday.
Former Australian captain Alan Border paid tribute to Symonds, who played 26 tests for Australia and was a favorite in the short-form game as a major wagon.
“He bounced the ball away and just wanted to amuse. He was in a sense a bit of an old-fashioned cricketer, ”Border told the Nine Network.
In recent years, Symonds has worked as a TV commentator for Fox Sports and has always been a microphone in Big Bash League broadcasts.
“He was an adventurer. He loved fishing, he loved hiking, camping, ”Border said of Simonds.
Symonds nicknamed “Roy” was charismatic on the field, often wearing zinc cream and sometimes in sports dreadlocks.
“People liked his very casual style,” Border said.
“He lived in Townsville. When I talked to him, I think he still had a hundred head of cattle that he was collecting.
“Simo away from the cameras and in the spotlight, loved, I think, a little loneliness, and so loved his fishing. He loved his time. “
Symonds’ death came after the shocking death of cricket peer Shane Warne, who died in March in Thailand. Sunday’s news sparked a wave of honors.

Former Australian goalkeeper Adam Gilchrist tweeted: “It really hurts. # рой # рып ».
Another former teammate, Greg Matthews, suggested, “Such a clean man, so real, so down to earth … so humble! G, another brother is leaving us ”.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan wrote: “Sima .. It doesn’t seem real .. #RIP”.
Investigators will prepare a report for the investigator on the Simmonds accident.
