Emergency forest fire warning in WA

DFES warns that fire conditions in areas east of Varuna, Hamel, Kukernap, Jarlup, Harvey and surrounding areas in Harvey and Varuna counties have escalated and could affect within the next four hours.

People in Preston Beach have also been told that leaving is dangerous and they need to actively defend their home or hide in a safer place.

An emergency warning was issued earlier in the Dalup area, west of Esperance, in the far south of the state.

Houses near Murray Road are at risk of fire, flames above the roofs, warns DFES.

The report of the fire was registered on January 4 and covered about 3,000 hectares.

The reason is the re-ignition of a previous fire caused by lightning.
