England have landed in Australia ready to exact revenge on the Diamonds after they knocked them out of the gold medal at their home Commonwealth Games.

Both teams head into tonight’s England series against the backdrop of contrasting Test matches, while the Diamonds are still dealing with the fallout from their sponsorship fiasco.

The Diamonds won the Constellation Cup 2-2 against rivals New Zealand on reverse goals, while the Roses won the series 3-0 against Uganda’s She Cranes.

This will be a new Diamonds squad, with both captain and vice-captain Liz Watson and Steph Wood not playing in this series.

Instead, Paige Hadley has been named captain after missing out on the Constellation Cup, while West Coast Fever captain Courtney Bruce will act as vice-captain.

The biggest change to the team will come at the back end of Australia’s attack, with rookie Donnell Wallam set to make his international debut – in the face of a $15 million Hancock Prospecting handout dispute.

Wallam applied for an exemption from wearing the Hancock logo on her dress, following comments made by late founder Lang Hancock back in the 1980s.

After this bid was rejected by Netball Australia, the players rallied around Wallam and Hancock Prospecting’s sponsorship was terminated.

It’s been a tough pre-series run for Wallam, with comments and drama surrounding the lost deal.

Meanwhile, the Roses arrived in Australia without drama after their run of wins over Uganda.

They are assembling an experienced team, including Super Netball stars Joe Harten, Geva Mentor and Helen Housby.

The Roses will have three games to try and match them with the game’s best after a disappointing Commonwealth Games fade.

Star defender Rose Mentor said the team was prepared for a tough battle in Australia.

“I think the Australian Diamonds and Vitality Roses battles that we’ve had over the years have definitely intensified, especially in the last four or five years when England has been a lot more competitive,” she told England Roses media.

“I think before you probably wrote us off and it was just about building and now we’re in it and we’re in it to try and win.

“I think the beauty of so many players being able to play Down Under and being exposed to the Australian style, what it takes to be able to train week in week out with that intensity and then take that to the international stage , is really important to us for good service.

“I guess it just makes international and world netball more exciting as not only are New Zealand and Australia fighting for the top positions, but England and now Jamaica are obviously hot on the heels of those number one and two in the world.”
