He has been a journalist at the Newcastle Herald for over 20 years, focusing on coverage of culture, art, entertainment, food, beverage, books and music. He previously served as editor-in-chief of Hunter Valley News and the Muswellbrook Chronicle. He was the founding editor of the Newcastle Times. He was also the editor of Tahoe World in Tahoe City, California, and the Cordova Times in Cordoba, Alaska. He began his career as a part-time sports reporter at the Rapid City Journal in Rapid City, South Dakota, as a teenager.
