Giga Kick beats the Nature Strip in front of a record crowd of 46,221 at Royal Randwick

Everest has 12 slotholders, including ultra-wealthy individuals such as Hong Kong businessman Bon Ho and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as ASX-listed Tabcorp – brokering deals with horse owners to represent them on Everest.

Each slot holder is paid $600,000 a year to own the starting position. Charon’s investment proved to be a wise one as he teamed up with owners Giga Kick to climb the mountain for a second time, picking Redel’s first winner in 2017.

“There was a lot of pressure [choosing Giga Kick], but we like the profile of the three-year-olds in the race,” he said. “It’s a dream that he’s able to come up with and do it like that.”
