French rider Jules Gunon was awarded the official winner’s list for winning the 12-hour Bathurst race in 2020, when the race on the track starts in 2022.
Gunon won along with Maxim Sulet and Jordan Pepper in the 2020 edition, and this trio led the Bentley Continental GT3 to a dramatic victory.
The event was canceled due to Covid-19 in 2021, so Gunon was forced to wait for his return to Mount Panorama this year to pick up his prize.
The mayor of the Bathurst Regional Council, Robert Taylor, presented Guno with an official plaque to be installed on the new Bathurst Endurance Walk of Fame, located next to a statue of Peter Brock at the museum.
The presentation took place at the museum at the Bathurst 12 Hour exhibition. All 12-hour winners, past, present and future, will be recognized in this new venue.
Gunon accepted the award on behalf of the Bentley M-Sport team, which won the race in 2020, as Pepper and Sule do not participate in the 12-hour race this year.
“I am very happy to see this trophy, although I would like to share it with Maxim and Jordan, because this victory is not only mine,” said Gunon.
“But it’s amazing to come back and also see the story in this museum with Peter Brooks, whom I’m a big fan of. I’m very happy to be back at The Mountain. “
Gunon will be suitable for SunEnergy1 Racing at this year’s event, teaming up with Luka Stolaz, Kenny Hubul and Martin Conrad in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
The 27-year-old is confident he will run to the front again.
“That’s why we’re here, I think we can fight for it,” Gunon said.
“We have two wonderful enthusiasts, Kenny Habul and Martin Conrad, who are really wonderful, as well as Luke Stoltz, the factory driver of the Mercedes AMG.
“Our car is very fast, but the most unpredictable factor this year will be the weather. Let’s see how it turns out.
“I think we have a chance, but there are 20 more cars that have a chance. So we will do our best. “
All 20 teams have the opportunity to explore the Mount Panorama track today during several workouts before Sunday’s main event.
