Homegrown innovations are transforming global infection prevention practices

trophon: the global standard for HLD ultrasound transducer treatment

In Australia, patients suffer approximately 165,000 healthcare-associated infections each year.1 Up to 55% of these HAIs are preventable.2 Reprocessing of medical devices is one of the key strategies needed to break the chain of transmission of infection. Rethinking Chemistry for Confidence

trophon technology has redefined chemistry for HLD ultrasound probes with a proprietary hydrogen peroxide disinfectant that is “sound activated” to create a very fine mist. Each trofon cycle consumes only about 2 milliliters of disinfectant, and the mist penetrates the shadowed areas formed by cracks, grooves, and imperfections on the surface of the probe. This ensures reproducible performance for each probe and each patient with each cycle.

trophon devices have also replaced the need for manual handling of toxic, hazardous chemicals by personnel performing HLD. For the first time, automated HLD could be performed reproducibly and safely at the patient point of care. As fully enclosed systems, trophon devices reduce the risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals, fumes and spills often associated with wipes and traditional soaking methods, requiring only gloves as personal protective equipment. At the end of the cycle, the residual hydrogen peroxide passes through the destructors, and the by-products are environmentally friendly and safe hydrogen and water.

Masterful microbial protection

The trophon device is the only automated HLD technology for transvaginal, transrectal and surface probes that meets the mandatory microbial performance testing requirements for TGA listing, CE marking and FDA approval. In addition to mandatory testing, the trophon device goes above and beyond to eliminate a wide range of pathogens, including sexually transmitted pathogens such as human papillomavirus (HPV).3

trophon technology also passes the AOAC 966.04 sporicide test.4 This test uses two types of media that simulate complex medical surfaces that may be encountered in clinical practice, including surface defects and shaded areas. Ultrasound transducers have grooves and crevices that must be disinfected just like smooth surfaces, or the next patient may be at increased risk of infection. Unlike other automated HLD solutions, trophon technology is proven to be effective on these complex surfaces and does not require additional cleaning steps for shaded areas. trophon devices give you the confidence to ensure consistent patient protection in even the most challenging clinical situations.
