I would not have survived the abuse of Depp

Amber Heard told jurors in a libel case that she filed for divorce from Johnny Depp in 2016 because she was worried she would not survive the physical violence on his part.

During questioning by lawyers, Hurd said she acted afterwards Pirates of the Caribbean The star threw a cell phone that hit her in the face.

The incident made her realize that the marriage was “falling apart” despite attempts to restore it, she said.

“I knew I had to leave him,” the Aquaman actor told a Virginia court on Monday.

“I knew I wouldn’t survive if I didn’t.

“I have decided to file for divorce. It was hard because I loved Johnny so much. ”

The jury showed photos of Hurd with redness and swelling on his face, which she said was caused by a phone call.

At this point, “violence has become commonplace, not the exception,” Hurd said.

In earlier testimony, Depp said he never beat Hurd or any woman, and claimed she was an abuser in their relationship.

During a cross-examination on Monday (US time), Depp’s lawyers presented photos of Hurd appearing in public after she said Depp hit her.

There are no victims in the photos shown by the jury. Hurd said the damage, which included what she considered a broken nose, was not severe enough to be visible, or was covered in makeup.

Depp, 58, is suing 36-year-old Hurd for $ 50 million ($ 72 million), saying she slandered him when she said she was a victim of domestic violence.

Hurd filed a counterclaim for $ 100 million, claiming that Depp disgraced her by calling her a liar.

The couple married in February 2015, and their divorce was completed about two years later.

Hurd said Depp tossed into her phone during an altercation in May 2016 at her penthouse in Los Angeles.

The episode is one of several described by Hurd in which she said Depp attacked her.

In his testimony, Depp said Hurd was tough and in early 2015 threw away a bottle of vodka that cut off the top of the middle finger of his right hand.

Hurd denied that he cut off Depp’s finger, and said she hit him just to protect himself or his sister.

She also refuted Depp’s allegation that she left feces in bed at one of his homes after a brawl on her birthday.

The guard testified that Hurd told him that the feces was a “horrible joke.”

Hurd said she did not commit a prank that day, adding that she “was not in the mood for a prank.”

“Just on my 30th birthday, I was attacked by my husband, with whom I was desperately in love and knew I needed to leave,” she said.

The case in Fairfax County Court is based on Hurd’s opinion in December 2018, which appeared in Washington Post. Depp was never mentioned in the article, but he claims it was obvious that Hurd was referring to him.

Depp, who was once one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, said Hurd’s accusations cost him “everything.” New Pirates the film was postponed and Depp was replaced Fantastic beasts a movie franchise, a spin-off about Harry Potter.

Hurd’s lawyers claimed she was telling the truth and her opinion was defended by freedom of speech.

Closing remarks are scheduled for May 27.
