Lara Worthington has opened up about her evolving relationship with exercise after becoming a mum.
The 35-year-old model and mum-of-three has criticized the pressure on mums to ‘get back to normal’ after having a baby, saying she ‘hates’ what it does to women.
Instead, she explained that she prefers to focus on her well-being rather than waste herself on grueling workouts, which has left her feeling better about her body than ever.
“I have to remind myself that it’s normal for your body to change, especially after the first one [pregnancy]”, she said Body + Soul.
“It was really nice for me, especially the first one, because I didn’t know what was ahead of me.
“I hate the term ‘getting your body back’ because I think it’s a nice journey.
“The female body does incredible things and I don’t think that should be looked at negatively… We give life.”
Lara, who has three sons Rocket, 7, Racer, 5, and River, 2, with actor husband Sam Worthington, continued to remind women to be kinder to themselves — especially when it comes to exercise.
“It’s important not to be so hard on yourself because being a mom is the hardest job in the world,” she said.
“This is not a one-time thing. I’ve always tried and still try to find that balance with one, then two, then three [kids]and then balance everything else.
“I think it’s a long-term goal.”
Despite juggling a busy schedule – the former Sydney resident recently returned to Australia to model and launch her new sportswear line with fitness brand 2XU – while maintaining her health and fitness, Lara said she feels “better in my body now than when I was younger.”
In addition to her candid chat with the Australian publication, Lara also posed for the magazine’s cover, resulting in a series of gorgeous new images.
One shot shows Lara rocking a blue top with denim shorts worn with a pair of her 2XU tights.
In another shot, Lara wears a 2XU top under a pink mini skirt with an open side cut that shows off her upper thigh.
Aside from her official duties as an ambassador for the fitness label, Lara was spotted enjoying her country during her visit away from her family in New York.
Shortly after arriving in Down Under she headed to Bondi Beach with best friend Phoebe Tonkin where the couple enjoyed bathing in the water.
She too shot a new fashion campaign for British brand Aries on an undisclosed beach in Sydney, where she was photographed in a variety of cool outfits.
