Liberal MP Victoria Bernie Finn was fired from the party after comments against abortion

Controversial Liberal MP Bernie Finn was quickly expelled from the party.

The expulsion came after a motion to dismiss Mr Finn on Tuesday, sparked by a series of comments against abortion on social media.

This marks the end of almost four decades as a liberal politician for Mr. Finn.

Party leader Matthew Guy said the move was about becoming a “smart alternative government”.

“It’s unfortunate that this has happened, but I expect discipline from all members of the parliamentary party and I expect people to maintain a respectful discourse,” he said.

Prime Minister Daniel Andrews said Finn’s ouster shows how “bitterly divided” the Victorian opposition is.

“It’s their business,” he said.

“I will leave them on a bitter divide as long as we work as a government and provide for the people of our great state.”

Earlier this month, Mr Finn told his followers on Facebook that he was “praying” for an abortion ban in Victoria, including in cases of rape.

“So excited that the United States is on the verge of a major breakthrough in civilization,” he wrote, referring to the fact that Rowe v. Wade could potentially be repealed.

“Pray that it will also come here. Killing babies is a crime. “

On Monday, he doubled that position, telling 3AW that rapists who conceived their victims should be killed before a woman is offered an abortion.

“I do not believe that a child should be punished for the crimes of the parents. If you want to kill someone in this situation, kill the rapist, ”he told 3AW.

“I hope that Rowe v. Wade will be overturned, that I have held forever, and that killing babies is a crime. That’s what I’ve been talking about for decades. “
