The 19-year-old was close to joining the Reds on the day of the January deadline after agreeing on personal terms and completing a medical examination, only to have the move thwarted.

However, the “reds” confirmed on Tuesday (AEST) that the agreement on signing Carvalho on July 1 is now in force.

Liverpool have reportedly paid an initial ÂŁ 5million for Carvalho and handed over a 5-year deal to the under-21 party, who previously represented England at the youth level.

He scored 10 goals and gave up eight assists in 36 games when Fulham won the championship on their way to promotion in the Premier League in the 2021-2022 campaign.

Born in Lisbon, Carvalho went through the youth ranks at Fulham and played for the club for a total of 44 matches, including four times at the top two seasons ago.

In a message to Fulham fans posted on the club’s official website, Carvalho said: “I just want to thank you for everything they have done for me on and off the field.

“In the field they sang my name and encouraged me, and outside the field they always greeted me.

“Even in my family there are fans who approach them and are welcomed, which makes me happy.

“Obviously there have been ups and downs this season, but I’ve received some great messages from great fans.

“I just want to say a big thank you to all the Fulham fans, because without them I wouldn’t be in the position I am today, so thank you very much.”

Liverpool ended the Premier League season with a 3-1 win over the Wolves on Sunday, but that was not enough to beat Manchester City to the title on a dramatic final day.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges will meet Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris next Saturday in order to join the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, which have already been won this season.
