Man charged with murder after house fire in Albanyville, west of Melbourne

The man was charged with murder in a house fire in west Melbourne that killed a woman and seriously injured a teenager.

The 38-year-old man, who was under police protection at the hospital after the March incident, was charged on Wednesday.

Ambulance crews were called to the fire at Sutherland Street in Albanyville around 5.20pm on 14 March.

A 36-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died the next morning.

A 17-year-old girl with serious injuries was taken to hospital.

The man has been charged with several offenses, including murder and attempted murder, and is due to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday night.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
