MyDrive | Mercedes-AMG – Due to the fact that the popularity of Mercedes-Benz and the AMG brand does not fluctuate, not one but two models with the world’s most powerful four-cylinder turbocharged engine in series production will stop in Australia. The German manufacturer reaffirms its credibility, emphasizing how powerful and dynamic the combination of all-wheel drive with a turbine engine can be.
The long-awaited Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC + hatch and the four-door coupe Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4MATIC + increase power, posture and performance while continuing to enhance the legacy of the previous generation of these age-old favorites.
AMG-specific additions include the AMG driver package (top speed increased to 270 km / h), AMG TRACK PACE data logging, AMG night package with black design elements and 19-inch diameter AMG cross and 8.5-inch-wide alloy wheels with knitting needles black matte with glitter.
The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC + retails for $ 93,600 (MRLP), and the CLA 45 S 4MATIC + has the same high level of performance as the A 45 S 4MATIC +, and sells for $ 111,200 (MRLP).

At the heart of the two new models is an important achievement of Mercedes-AMG – a four-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates an incredible 310 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque. Combined with the new AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT-8G dual-clutch transmission with eight gears and gear changes measured in milliseconds, the A 45 S 4MATIC + accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in just 3.9 seconds (CLA 45: 4MAT seconds). With a capacity of 155 kW per liter, the turbo four is even ahead of many well-known engines of supercars.
The active, fully variable all-wheel drive AMG Performance 4MATIC + selectively distributes power to the rear axle wheels with AMG TORQUE CONTROL, providing maximum traction and creating the parameters for a spectacular new “Drift” mode. This is made possible by a new rear axle differential with two multi-disc clutches – one for each rear wheel.
A couple of great performers
The new Mercedes-AMG A 45 S is based on the latest generation of the famous compact hatchback and sedan Mercedes-Benz A-Class and is based on the outstanding success of the newly created A 35 4MATIC and CLA 35 4MATIC. 4MATIC + The hatchback and four-door coupe CLA 45 S 4MATIC + do much more than just set new performance standards.
The significantly reinforced body housing provides the basis for accurate steering characteristics as well as track and camber stability. A lightweight aluminum plate mounted under the engine – a “cutting plate” – increases the stiffness of the front to torsion, while additional reinforcement supports the suspension system. This leads to very precise reactions even at physical limits, giving the driver well-defined feedback, as well as less rolling and rolling when cornering, when braking and during load cycles.
The recently developed 2.0-liter engine is the world’s most powerful four-cylinder turbocharged, available for series production (310 kW / 500 Nm), which improves the power of the engine used in previous models, 30 kW and 25 Nm .
Also impressive is the carefully balanced torque curve with a maximum torque available in the range of 5,000 to 5,250 rpm, which provides power transmission similar to a starter motor. The high maximum engine speed (up to 7200 rpm) further emphasizes the sporty nature of the engine.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8G 8-speed dual-clutch transmission has been tuned for spontaneous acceleration in all speed ranges. Depending on the selected driving mode AMG DYNAMIC SELECT the driver gets a certain drive configuration with different accelerator and gearshift characteristics. The standard RACE-START function allows you to accelerate as much as possible from the property, in a very emotional experience.
All-wheel drive AMG Performance 4MATIC + with AMG TORQUE CONTROL includes extremely dynamic control. The secret in AMG TORQUE CONTROL is in the new rear axle differential: it has two electronically controlled multi-disc clutches, each connected to the rear axle drive shaft. Thus, the power of the drive can be not only completely variable distributed between the front and rear wheels, but also selectively between the left and right rear wheels.
The result is a stable optimum grip, even in adverse road conditions. Surrounded by a race track, this challenging solution allows for extreme cornering maneuvers with the new Drift mode, which makes sliding with power possible for even more driving pleasure.
The AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive damping system is standard and allows the driver to choose between three different suspension control modes: from comfortable to sporty. The system works completely automatically, adapting the damping forces for each wheel according to the situation and road conditions. This occurs within milliseconds and is infinitely variable, with widespread damping characteristics.
The high-performance braking system provides a deceleration-resistant and short braking distance with 6-piston fixed calipers and 360 x 36 mm brake discs at the front and 1-piston floating calipers with 330 x 22 mm discs at the rear. The discs have internal ventilation and perforation to better dissipate heat and prevent the brakes from damping, even under extreme loads, and the brake calipers are painted red with the black AMG logo.
The new Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC + and CLA 45 S 4MATIC + are also equipped with the new AMG DYNAMICS system. This integrated vehicle dynamics control extends the stabilizing functions of ESP® with intervention to increase dexterity in driving all wheels, steering characteristics and additional ESP® functions. When turning at speed, for example, the short braking of the inner rear wheel creates a certain yaw movement around the vertical axis for a quick and accurate entry into the turn. The spectrum varies from extremely stable to very dynamic.
