In the midst of turmoil in common markets, mercenary geologist Mickey Fulp sees several places where one could turn around.

“It’s a difficult situation,” he said recently Vancouver Investment Resources Conference (VRIC). “I’m very bearish, not necessarily in commodity prices, but in general resource space and the ability of companies to research, develop, produce – this is now opposed by many factors.

Among them are resource nationalism, socialism, anti-development initiatives and green programs, Fulp explained. Meanwhile, mining companies are seeing energy and labor costs caused by inflation.

“Margin costs, profits will decline,” he told the Investing News Network. “I do not predict the profitability we had in the third quarter of 2020 – a record for all time. This was true when we had very high prices on base and precious metalsbut the costs did not catch up – we did not have high inflation.

Speaking about where he sees opportunities, Fulp noted two key areas.

“I’m always set up for something. I’m bearish in the markets, (but) I’m set up for gold – physical bullion – and farmland right now. I’m mostly coming out of the junior resource space at every opportunity where I can take advantage of profits, break-even “,” he said. “Or I’ll make a sale of tax losses at the end of the year and convert it to US dollars.”

Despite this bearish view, Fulp offered one stock option: Allegiant Gold, targeting Nevada (TSXV:AUAUOTCQX: AUXXF).
