Contrary to the odds, Jack Duane became the best Australian in the Formula 2 sprint race on the Barcelona-Catalonia track when Felip Drugovic redeemed his penalty after qualifying to win.
Tobacco from Virtuosi Racing, who starts from the pole in the game race, reached sixth place in the sprint, earning a solid number of points.
Meanwhile, fellow countryman Duhan Callan Williams took 17th placeth despite starting from the front in Barcelona.
Williams fell victim to an early drama, stopping at a formation wheel before starting with Pitlain.
This was something that could have been for the novice Trident who was in a good place to score his best result in the company.
Starting from the fourth after the penalty shootout after qualifying, Drugovic broke away in the lead on the first turn and from that moment controlled the meeting.
The MP Motorsport driver was in the lead on every lap and made his way to the top of the Formula 2 drivers’ championship.
Ayumu Ivas and Logan Sargent were second and third, taking their first podiums in F2.
The top three took the substitute of Polesie Jake Hughes in the early stages after starting at positions 4 to 6, declaring themselves leaders early before leaving.
They were followed by Johan Daruval, who held his position throughout the race, and Theo Purshar, who recognized the lead in the standings of the race winner.
Frederick Vesti followed Duhan in seventh place, with Enzo Fitipaldi, Liam Lawson and Marcus Armstrong finishing in the top 10.
The race was relatively clean, however, after Yuri Vips exposed his car to gravel at turn 4 on lap 7, it took one period for the car to be safe.
During this precautionary period, Omar Cardello was fined 10 seconds for not being in the car’s safety line after it was deployed.
While Drugovich, Ivasa and Sergeant led their merry journey after the restart, Hughes ’race went from bad to worse as he was forced to resign.
