Foreign Minister Penny Wong has slammed former Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s attempt to “play politics” when she overturned the former government’s recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
She said Australia’s embassy “always has been and remains” in Tel Aviv and Australia remains committed to a two-state solution.
“I would say that Mr Morrison’s decision to enter politics … has resulted in Australia changing its position,” Ms Wong told a news conference.
“I know this has caused conflict and distress in some parts of the Australian community and today the Government is committed to addressing it.”
