Milan have completed an 11-year wait to take first place in Serie A with a 3-0 win over Sassuolo on Monday (AEST). The victory of “Inter” at home in “Sampdoria” with the same score is meaningless.
The Rossoneri finished two points ahead of former Inter champions and won their first trophy since the 2016 Italian Super Cup about 1976 days ago.
The wards of Pioli have won the last five matches and have gone 15 unbeaten to forgive the campaign, with their final score of 88 points being the second best in history with three points for the win.
And after an exciting battle for the title with Inter, which reached the final game – the first time it took place in Serie A from 2009-2010 – Pioli was full of praise for his players.
“They’re phenomenal,” he said. “I am happy for them, for myself, for the fans, for the club. This scudetto makes us all very happy.
“We showed more consistency than Inter.” The last game we lost was against Spice in January, and even then we didn’t have to lose it.
“The team never gave up; all the players were fantastic. We totally deserved this scudetto because we believed in it more. We are a strong team and I have a great staff around me. ”
Olivier Giroud scored twice for AC Milan in their championship win at Sassuolo, and Frank Cassie added a third to the break.
Rafael Leaa has assisted in two of those shots and has been involved in at least one goal in his last six league games, including three of his own.
The Portuguese national team was named the most valuable player of Serie A in 2021-2202, and Pioli – coach of the year.
“I have to thank the players and the club for that,” Pioli said. “It’s a reward for them. Without them, what we’ve achieved would be impossible.”
