Rescue and evacuation in Sydney during severe flooding

On July 5, evacuation orders and warnings were issued in and around Sydney as about 50,000 people were affected by severe flooding. New South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said its crews had been instrumental in 249 flood rescues since last weekend. “Last night between 5pm and 9pm there were 101 flood response operations, mainly in south-west Sydney,” the service said, “including 50 rescues from homes and vehicles trapped in mel, in half an hour.” More than two dozen rescuers followed in the early morning, they said. The Bureau of Meteorology said heavy rain would continue until Wednesday in the Mid-North Coast and parts of the Northern Plateau. By New South Wales Fire and Rescue Service via Storyful
