A state of emergency was declared after a truck with gas cylinders rolled in the Queensland countryside.

The truck overturned on the Wareg Highway just after 2 a.m. in Blacksoil, near Ipswich, closing the highway in both directions between Brisbane Valley and Pine Mountain Road.

A state of emergency was declared just after 2 a.m. after the gas cylinder leak began.

People close to the exclusion zone, including Blacksoil, Brassall and Pine Mountain, were ordered to remain on the premises until further notice and close doors and windows as a precaution.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said on Wednesday morning the crews were still at the spill site and working to restore the gas cylinders and contain the gas leak.

Gas is no longer emissions, but an exclusion zone has been created.

Members of the public are advised to avoid the area as significant delays are expected.
