You turn 50 only once, and the BMW M unit makes the most of it.
His latest anniversary presentation is a special edition of the BMW M3 and BMW M4, which has lasted for 50 years.
The special M3 is only produced for the US and Canada, with a circulation of just 500 units, but the M4 50 Jahre is produced for China, Europe and “other individual sales regions”.
We have contacted BMW Australia to confirm whether we are one of these regions.
BMW has not confirmed how many special M4s will be produced.
The M4 50 Jahre will be available in both standard Competition and Competition xDrive models, the first of a 353 kW / 550 Nm 3.0-liter in-line twin-turbo six paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and the latter two with 375 kW. / 650 Nm and eight-speed automatic.
The M4 50 Jahre, introduced to the Chinese market, will also celebrate the Year of the Tiger with a choice of Fire Orange paint with matte wrought iron discs Orbit Gray or Stratus Gray paint with matte Gold Bronze wheels.
For Europe and other individual regions there is a choice of exterior finishes of soot, blue Macau, gray brand Hatch, red Imola and blue san marina.
They are completed with 19-inch forged M wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear, with a matte finish of Orbit Gray or Gold Bronze.
All 50 Jahre models will come with branded door sills, a metal nameplate on the center console and corresponding inscriptions on standard M sports seats or optional M carbon seats.
The M3 50 Jahre is perhaps an even more exciting color palette.
It will be available exclusively in the form of Competition xDrive for the US and Canada, and each of the 500 cars will be treated in a range of finishes inspired by the past colors of the BMW M.
The solid color Cinnabar Red comes from the E30 M3, Techno Violet from the E36 M3, Deep Interlagos Blue from the E46 M3, Fire Orange from the E92 M3 Lime Rock Park Edition and Limerock Gray from the F80 M3 CS.
The blue and purple finishes will be exclusive to the 50 Jahre edition.
They are completed with Orbit Gray matt-coated forged wheels and are available with a range of BMW M Performance parts, such as a carbon fiber front splitter and carbon / titanium outlets.
Inside the headrests have stripes in section M instead of the inscription 50 years.
BMW has done its best for its 50th anniversary by showing off the hotter M4 CSL and planning to introduce a production version of its Concept XM by the end of the year.
There may be more.
The M3 CS sedan and M3 Touring station wagon are expected to be unveiled this year, and the M4 CSL is rumored to receive an analogue with a mechanical transmission called the M4 GT / H.
BMW Blog also reports that the division is working on an ultra-exclusive M4 inspired by the 2015 CSL Hommage concept.
