Health Minister Mark Butler has announced that the government has secured an agreement to supply 450,000 doses of the third-generation vaccine to combat monkeypox and prevent the transmission of the infection.
22,000 doses are arriving in Australia this week and next, with 100,000 doses to be delivered this year and 350,000 in 2023.
“The first element of the government’s action against monkeypox is to procure the world’s best vaccines for Australians,” Butler told a news conference on Thursday.
“And now we are one of a very limited number of countries that have been able to secure the supply of this third-generation vaccine to this highly contested market in 2022.”
