Thousands of people gathered in Grozny, Chechnya, on Friday, October 7, to celebrate President Vladimir Putin’s 70th birthday, satellite images taken by Maxar Technologies show. Russian state media reported that the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, was part of a “holiday formation” of more than 20,000 soldiers to honor the president. Satellite images provided by Maxar Technologies, which they say were taken on Friday, show thousands of people at a rally in Grozny. International leaders, including Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, congratulated Putin on his birthday, according to the Russian government.
