Our resident beer writer (best job in the world, huh?!) has pulled everything from Emu Bitter to Double Haze Triple IPAs.
Taking a sip this week, Jay Rooney gives his verdict on whether it’s worth drinking with a mate of the week.
NAME OF THE BEER?
Black IPA by Brewcha Libre Monkey Business
WHERE IS THIS FROM?
Brewcha Libre, a gypsy brewery run by award-winning homebrewer Ryan Walker.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT IT?
What do you get when you combine contrasting dark beer styles with a fruity hoppy IPA?
Black India pale ales can seem a bit complex and unusual, but when done well, they offer a unique and delightful experience.
Monkey Business pours a thick black color with a light brown head, but looks can be deceiving.
While there are some roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes from the combination of six different malts, the real hero is the tropical aroma and flavor produced by the addition of Galaxy hops.
Flavors of passion fruit and zesty orange peel are unexpected delights, while pure American ale yeast helps impart a crisp, clean taste and hides 7.5 percent of ACA.
There’s a lot going on in this drop, but the contrasting flavors work together to send you on a unique journey worth experiencing.
WHAT’S THE HARM?
About $9 for a single can and $32 for a four-pack.
